DERVENAKIA
The Battle of Dervenakia was, as is known, on July 26, 1822 the most critical battle of the Greeks against the Turks during the Struggle, resulting to the destruction of the army of Dramalis and the victory of the Greek army, the result of the strategic genius of Theodoros Kolokotronis. In the historic site of battle, the church of Agios Sostis, during the celebration of the centenary (1930) of the independent Greek State, the statue of Th. Kolokotronis was erected in a prominent position. The monument is a work of the Athenian sculptor G. Dimitriadis and was inaugurated on July 7th, 1938.

Theodoros Kolokotronis stayed in Nemea the night before the operation in Dervenakia and the destruction of Dramalis. In our town there is also the house of the Paparitoras, from the roof of which the general of the Greek revolution gave his famous speech, encouraging the Greeks before the battle. One can easily visit the place, asking the locals for its location.

The old Dervenakia Railway Station can also be another interesting stop for the visitor. In the picturesque old train station with the old trains still displayed you will also see the Italian machine gun of World War II, held as an exhibit as well.
