VILLAGES AROUND THE PLAIN OF NEMEA
In a short distance from the town of Nemea you can find villages that you can visit and admire their natural beauty and local character.

In Aedonia, the so-called Village of the Waters, you can visit Platana. There, a wild torrent forms a small but beautiful waterfall at certain times of the year. Access takes good endurance, but the spectacle will compensate for everything.

Travelers cannot yet visit thethe tholos tombs (beehive tombs) of Aedonia. However some of them have been bolder, and have chosen to visit the site. The cluster of 20 tholos tombs (5 of which were found unplundered) is placed chronologically between the 16th and 13th century BC, and was excavated between 1978-1986. Asking locals about the tombs, you will slowly get a grip of how the story of the "Treasure of Aedonia" was born. The grave goods date back to around 1500 BC and were extracted by looters in the late 70s, even before the beginning of the excavations. They were then exhibited in an American auction catalogue, and only after Greece appealed to the Federal Court of Justice in New York were they returned to Aedonia, three years later. You can admire these grave goods in a specially created part of the Archaeological Museum of Nemea.

Petri, home of the internationally renowned footballer Tasos Bakasetas, is the large "balcony" of the Nemean plain, with its famous spring of crystal clear water and a history that dates long ago. The Early Helladic settlement that was found there testifies to the long inhabitation of Fliasion field from earlier times. The satellite earth station located at the entrance of the village with its huge satellite disks is a pole of attraction and interest for telecommunication companies and scientific research.

Leontion, with its unique village square and its beautiful rural houses can be offered for a walk to the visitor.

Koutsi, built high up on the mountain, will give you the most beautiful view of our plain.

In Bozikohoria, the everyday life of the inhabitants follows the rythms of rural life, and in Ancient Nemea the Archaeological Site and the Stadium are definitely worth a visit.

ASOPOS RIVER
The villages of which the Municipality of Nemea consists are crossed by the river Asopos, father of the nymph Nemea. Passing between vineyards all around Fliasia Land and snaking through the plain, Asopos river ends up in the Corinthian Gulf. You will be greeted by the river at the Petri-Aedonia intersection, but also during your other walks around the plain.
